December:
Fertilize cool season flowers.
Plant dormant fruit trees.
Prepare your soil for spring plantings by tilling soil and adding amendments.
Remove the remainder of leaves from your lawn to prevent dead spots next spring.
Water newly planted trees and shrubs weekly in the absence of rain.


January:
Add pine straw to beds.
Cut back ornamental grasses.
Plant deciduous shrubs like Crape Myrtle.
Plant perennial garden. Include various types of plants that have interesting foliage and varied bloom periods.
Prune trees and deciduous shrubs.

February:
Cover Gardenias and Hydrangeas with burlap if freezing temperatures follow a few warm days.
Prune Crape Myrtles.
Prune deciduous trees and shrubs.
Spot spray winter weeds.
